This work was developed as the final project for 「Video Art and Expanded Forms」.
It began with a simple question: How do images acquire meaning, and how do they lose it?
I wanted the form itself to function as part of the work’s intention, so I used an excess of images to constantly redirect the viewer’s attention, disrupting stable narratives and resisting a single, fixed way of looking.
The video incorporates GIF thumbnails from my previous works. Existing somewhere between a still image and a moving image, they occupy an ambiguous state. By layering and juxtaposing these fragments, I tried to reconstruct a condition in which images continuously drift, overlap, and slip away from fixed meanings rather than settling into one.
While I think the idea of creating a kind of rupture in perception came across to some extent, the critique process ultimately left me with even more questions than answers.
Why do some images stay with us, while others simply pass us by?
This work was one way of exploring that question, and the different perspectives shared during the critique have given me plenty to think about moving forward.
